kudoodle, step by step
Everything kudoodle does, one small step at a time. New here? Start with Getting started, then try steps 1 to 5. Each step links to the same part of the 90-second tutorial video.
★Getting started
Two minutes, once.
- Add kudoodle to Chrome. It's free.
- Pin it: click the puzzle-piece icon at the top right of Chrome, then the pin next to kudoodle. The kudoodle face now sits in your toolbar. This guide calls it the kudoodle button.
- Reload any tabs that were already open, so kudoodle can show its buttons there.
Why not just screenshot? A screenshot is a photo of your screen: it catches bits of the page, freezes GIFs and forgets where the picture came from. kudoodle keeps the picture itself, the page it came from and who made it. See them side by side.
1Save a picture
On any website, keep a picture in one click.
- Move your mouse over a picture. Two buttons appear at its top right: Crop and Keep.
- Press Keep. A note at the bottom right tells you where it went, like "Kept to Trip ideas · from example.com".
Other ways to keep
- Right-click a picture and choose Keep image.
- A whole page: click the kudoodle button, then Keep 12 next to "Keep all on this page" (the number is how many pictures it found).
Good to know: each keep remembers the page it came from, and the creator and licence when the page says them. Found it on an image search? The original page gets the credit, not the search. Tiny pictures (under 120 pixels, like icons) are skipped.
2Boards
Boards keep things tidy: one for a trip, one for recipes, one for outfits.
Make a board
- Open your collection: kudoodle button → Open my collection.
- Under "Your boards", press + New board, type a name and press Add.
Send new keeps straight to a board
- Click the kudoodle button.
- Next to Keeping into, pick the board. Every Keep goes there until you change it.
Put pictures you already have on a board
- In your collection, tap the pictures. A ✓ appears on each.
- Press Add to board in the bar at the bottom and pick the board.
Tip: the ••• next to a board lets you rename it, change its colour, download it or delete it. Deleting a board never deletes its pictures; they stay in All saves. Free includes 3 boards; Plus has as many as you like.
3Crop & edit
Only want one bowl from a whole thali, or one face from a group photo?
- Hover the picture and press Crop. The page dims and the kudoodle side panel opens on the right.
- Drag over the part you want. Not quite right? Drag again.
- In the side panel, turn it, flip it, make it black & white, or change its brightness, contrast and saturation. Pick a board under Save to.
- Press Keep crop. Changed your mind? Keep the whole image instead.
A GIF
Press Crop on a GIF. Under Pick a frame, use ◀ ▶ or the slider to find the moment you want, then press Keep this frame, or drag over part of it first.
The side panel didn't open? Click the kudoodle button and press Open crop panel. To stop cropping, press Cancel at the top of the page.
4Find it again
Your collection, sorted by day: Today, Yesterday, Earlier this week and so on.
- Open it: kudoodle button → Open my collection. Or type in Find a save… in the same menu to search straight away.
- A board: tap its name on the left. All saves shows everything again.
- Quick filters at the top: Everything, GIFs, Crops, Free to reuse, and the sites you save from most.
- A colour: tap a colour dot to see only pictures of that colour. Tap it again to clear it.
- Search: a site, a tag or a name.
Where did it come from?
Tap a picture to open its details: Open original ↗ takes you to the page it came from, and you'll see who made it and what they allow (Free to reuse, Reuse with conditions or Personal use only). Missing a name? Press Add name, or Change to fix it. You can add tags there too.
5Download Plus
Take your pictures with you, credits and all.
- In your collection, tap the pictures you want.
- Press Download in the bar at the bottom. You get a .zip file.
Inside: each picture, named after its title and creator, with its credit written into the file, plus a credits sheet (Credits.html and credits.txt) with a credit line ready to paste. To download a whole board, use ••• → Download board.
+Little extras
Study a picture
Tap one picture, then Study. Switch between Original, Black & white, Two-tone and Poster, lay a grid over it (Thirds, 4×4, 6×6, Diagonal) and see its colours (click one to copy its code). Hold Space to peek at the original. With Plus: Save as PNG or Open in Canva ↗.
Find look-alikes
Tap one picture, then Find similar, or right-click a picture on any page and choose Find similar. Matching runs on your own computer.
WhatsApp sticker Plus
Open a picture's details and press Make a WhatsApp sticker. Try White outline, then Save to WhatsApp and follow the short steps shown for your computer or phone.
$Plus
One payment, yours for life: downloads with credits, unlimited boards, study files and stickers.
- Buy Plus on the kudoodle website. Your licence key arrives by email from Dodo Payments.
- Open your collection, press ★ Get Plus, paste the key and press Unlock.
New computer or browser? In the old one, press ★ Plus → Move Plus to another browser, then unlock in the new one with the same key.
?Something not working?
- No Keep button when I hover a picture
- Reload the page. Tabs that were open before you added kudoodle need one reload. The buttons don't show on Chrome's own pages (like the Chrome Web Store), on tiny pictures, or on backgrounds that aren't real pictures. Right-click → Keep image works on most pictures.
- "Can't read this page. Try reloading it."
- The kudoodle menu couldn't look at this tab yet. Reload the tab and open the menu again.
- "This site blocked the download"
- Some sites don't let other tools fetch their pictures. kudoodle respects that, so that picture can't be kept from there.
- Keep all is switched off on this site
- On art sites, artists asked not to be collected in bulk. You can still keep the pieces you love one at a time.
- "Already in your collection"
- You kept it before. Nothing is lost; if a board is picked, it's added to that board too.
- My collection is gone after reinstalling
- Your collection lives only in your browser, so removing kudoodle removes it too. With Plus, download your boards before you uninstall.
- Still stuck?
- Email s.g.sumanth48@gmail.com with what you tried, and a screenshot if you like (this is where a screenshot is perfect).
